166. Alli Webb, Co-Founder of Drybar & Serial Entrepreneur
Alli Webb is a powerhouse. There's no two ways around it. This is an interview I dreamt of for some time, and I couldn't be more elated to bring it to the feed this week. For episode 166, Alli and I chat about the why and how: Why she cared so deeply about building a concept that revolved around self-care, and how she made it happen from the ground up. We also talk about the challenges that came hand-in-hand with her divorce, and what it's like building (still!) with her ex-husband. Plus: the hype behind her newest ventures including Okay Humans, Beckett & Quill, and the Girlfiends & Business podcast. Plus: Endless career advice, how she pivoted during COVID, and what it means to be Alli 2.0. 165. Kai Lightner, Pro Climber
Kai Lightner, is a professional climber — arguably one of the best in the world — from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Since first walking into the climbing gym at age 6, Kai has earned 12 national championship titles, but his story goes so much deeper than championships. We talk about it all, from the why behind how he started in the sport, dealing with ADHD as a young kid, looking for an outlet to channel that energy, and how he feels being the only person of color in climbing. Kai talks about his relatively new nonprofit Climbing 4 Change, which aims to help with that by connecting underserved communities with individuals and organizations that seek to increase minority participation in rock climbing and the outdoor adventure industry. He also gets super open and honest about a massive hurdle he spoke out about publicly last year, dealing with an eating disorder as a result of the pressure he felt to be the best, and how deciding to take time off of the sport to go to college helped him get in the right mindset. 164. Bob Abbate, AKA Dad
With Father's Day yesterday, I feel like now Is as good of a time as ever to bring my Dad, Bob, onto the show. For episode 164, we talk everything from his proudest and scariest moments as a father to his best advice for me as I continue to grow my business. I think it’s cool because you really get some insight into where I got this entrepreneurial bug from. My dad — aside from being my best friend — has been one himself since after college when he opened his first audio equipment store and then after that, multiple marketing agencies. We also talk about his earliest memories, his hopes for me in my new Brooklyn chapter, and his advice for all of you when the hurdles happen. I know that for some Father’s Day (and Mother’s Day) can be tough, but I’m happy to share my dad with you, and I’m here if you need someone to talk to.
