Host Dr. Jackie Loeshelle is joined by Dr. Evan Cohen and Dr. Mark Manago to discuss blood flow restriction training for patients with neurologic deficits. During the interview, Drs. Cohen and Manago discuss how blood flow restriction works physiologically and evidence on using this intervention for individuals with a variety of neurologic diagnoses. They discuss how fatigue is often a limiting factor of exercise (for both strengthening and aerobic training) with patient with neurologic conditions, and that the addition of blood flow restriction may allow patients to be able to work at a higher intensity when fatigue is a barrier. In this episode, we highlight one of the winners of our poster awards at CSM 2022. Lindsay Fitchett talks to Chris Burke about her group’s systematic review of wearable sensors assessing balance and mobility in people with PD. They discuss themes from the review including differentiating PIGD and tremor-dominant subtypes, looking at fall risk, assessing movement strategies/transfers, and sensor-based interventions. In this episode, we highlight one of the winners of our poster awards at CSM 2022. Jason Longhurst talks to Katy McGraw about his research on gait characteristics in people with PD. His research looks at data from people without freezing, people with freezing on initiation, and people with non-initiation-type freezing.
