On Thursday Wake Forest completed its five-day coaching-search process by deciding that ETSU caoch Steve Forbes will be the one to replace Danny Manning. This emergency pod is dedicated almost entirely to that, in addition to a potentially messy situation that awaits Wake Forest. It appears that the school is going to try and not pay Manning his $15 million buyout. Obviously Manning wants his money. As for Forbes, he amassed a 130-43 record with the Buccaneers and guided ETSU to the 2017 and NCAA Tournament. The team would have gone back this year if not for COVID-19 cancelling the Big Dance. Wednesday was a historic day in NCAA history. The organization, through the power of its Board of Governors, announced that name, image and likeness legislation has been approved, with the vote going into action come January of 2021. There are obviously issues and criticisms, two of which stab at the heart of all of this, so Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander make it much clearer in the first 30 minutes just how much still needs to be done and where the NCAA is going to find itself in some trouble. There's some basketball to discuss as well. After Sunday's NBA Draft decision deadline (34:20), Norlander lists the eight biggest stay-or-go decisions that remain, plus five other really good players in the draft pool he thinks will inevitably return to college basketball. Jalen Green, who is almost universally regarded as a top-three prospect in the class of 2020, announced Thursday that he'll be skipping college and instead plans on playing in the G League next season (whenever next season arrives). He'll be paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $500,000 to do so. It's the most aggressive move the NBA has made to entice highly ranked prospects to skip college, or other professional opportunities, and stay in the States on the way to ideally becoming an NBA player. Two projected top-five teams lost players to NBA draft declarations in the past couple of days: Creighton with Ty-Shon Alexander and Kentucky with Immanuel Quickley. Neither is a stunner, but both are expected to remain in the draft pool, which easily pokes both out of Parrish's way-too-early rankings. This pod opens up with some chatter on those decisions, and then at the 11:40 mark an exploration into what it means for teams with national championship aspirations to have top-60 prospects opt to return to school.
