Tom Ascol | Treasure in Jars of Clay - 2 Corinthians 4:7-15

Pastor Tom Ascol continues his 2 Corinthians series with a message about 2 Corinthians 4:7 – 15 entitled “Treasures in Jars of Clay.” The Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest manuscript fragment we have of the Old Testament books, were found in the late 1940’s in jars of clay. For over two millennia simple earthen pots had held treasures of the Old Testament. In a similar manner, the bodies of believers, simple earthen vessels, are indwelt by the Holy Spirit with the ability to proclaim the gospel message, a treasure of even greater value than the scrolls. In fact, it points to one of the truths regarding a faithful gospel ministry: gospel ministry consists of ordinary people declaring an extraordinary message.   This sermon was given by Dr. Tom Ascol on April 10, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL. Tom Ascol | Characteristics of a Faithful Ministry (Part 2) - 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Pastor Tom Ascol continues in his series in 2 Corinthians with a message entitled “Gospel Power in Human Weakness” centering on 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. How, in our weakness, are we to discern faithful ministry? Remarkably, some sources have identified over 2400 allegedly Christian radio stations. Christians need to be able to differentiate between trustworthy ministries and those teaching error. Luke (8:18) tells his readers to “Take care, then, how you hear.” In today’s message we will pick up from last week and look at the final two of the four characteristics Paul branded as indicative of a faithful gospel ministry. This sermon was given by Dr. Tom Ascol on March 20, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL. Tom Ascol | Characteristics of a Faithful Ministry (Part 1) - 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Pastor Tom Ascol resumes his series on 2 Corinthians. In a message entitled “Characteristics of a Faithful Ministry, Part 1,” the pastor examines 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. We have seen in the series so far that false teachers had attacked Paul’s ministry, yet like to Corinthians we also may have trouble detecting false ministers. Sometimes they are not all easily detected. In this passage, Paul assesses some of the characteristics of a faithful ministry which should be evident in the work of faithful ministers. Tom Ascol | The Superiority of New Covenant Ministry - 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

Pastor Tom Ascol resumes his series on 2 Corinthians with a message based on Chapter 3, verses 7-18 entitled “The Superiority of the New Covenant Ministry.” This passage teaches that left to ourselves, even our best efforts to understand and apply spiritual truths will be futile. There are spiritual barriers preventing the clear proclamation and understanding of truth that only the Holy Spirit’s work can overcome. Therefore, the Bible teaches that the New Covenant is superior to the Old Covenant and, consequently, ministry under the New Covenant surpasses ministry under the Old. Tom Ascol | A Commended Ministry - 2 Corinthians 3:1-6

Pastor Tom Ascol continues his series on 2 Corinthians in a message entitled “A Commended Ministry” 2 Corinthians 3:1-6. The apostle Paul’s purpose in writing today’s passage is to continue countering the attack toward his ministry by false prophets troubling the Corinthian church. Rather than a letter of recommendation, common in that age, the passage serves as a word of commendation and justification. Tom Ascol | Trials and Triumph in Christ - 2 Corinthians 2:12-17

Pastor Tom Ascol continues his series on 2 Corinthians with his message entitled “Trials and Triumph in Christ,” based on 2 Corinthians 2:12-17. In this passage Paul makes the point that faithful gospel ministers are invaluable in helping people know and follow Christ. Further, and since this is so, Satan’s strategy is to undermine those ministers and convince believers they have little need for the ministry of the church. Tom Ascol | Sin, Discipline and Forgiveness in the Church - 2 Corinthians 2:5-11

In this message entitled “Sin, Discipline, and Forgiveness” Pastor Tom Ascol continues his exposition of 2 Corinthians. Centering on 2 Corinthians 2:5-11 Pastor Ascol notes the often widespread breakdown in discipline within government, education, and homes that makes the concept of discipline in a church seems foreign. Yet, today’s passage shows Christ calling His church to deal with sin with discipline and grace. This sermon was given by Dr. Tom Ascol on January 31, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL. Tom Ascol | Integrity in Ministry - 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:4

Pastor Tom Ascol continues his series on the book of 2 Corinthians with a message entitled “Integrity in Ministry,” based on 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:4. A gospel minister’s stock in trade is truth. Any lack of integrity or truth hinders the work to which the minister has been called. It has ever been so. Today’s passage shows Paul effectively defending his integrity to the Corinthian church which apparently had listened to false charges leveled against him. Tom Ascol | God's Way of Strengthening Faith - 2 Corinthians 1:8-11

Pastor Tom Ascol continues his series in 2 Corinthians with a message entitled “God’s Way of Strengthening Faith” centered on 2 Corinthians 1:8-11. The Christian life is a life of faith. While faith provides an entryway to a relationship with God it does not stop there. Faith needs renewal, strengthening, and growth.
