Are Organic Cheetos Better For You? - Episode 895

: Episode 895 - Vinnie and Anna talk about whether "organic" snack foods such as "organic Cheetos" or other "all-natural" snacks like the Rx bar are really any better for you... PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Green Grocer Thrive Market PURE COFFEE CLUB Trying to make high quality company Vinnie has come up with his own roasts Gonna start with three roasts We get the best beans from around the world We are taking super nice, generally expensive coffee, and making it affordable! Look out for happenings in the future NSNG Vinnie is making a comprehensive FREE pdf about NSNG He believes that this information should be free because he genuinely cares about peoples' health and lifestyles PDF coming in a few days HERE ORGANIC CHEETOS In most cases, making things "organic" does not make them better for you Frito - Lay company Whole Foods will be selling them Another messed up Whole Foods thing Totally junk food Still all grain, maybe fewer chemicals, will still make you fat because it's straight carbs They essentially put the "organic" label on there so that places like Whole Foods can get away with selling them Same thing as Coke making Coke with real sugar An example of "shining turds" Rx bar is marketed as healthy but is still incredibly unhealthy

Skeptics, Psychics & Diet - Episode 893

: Episode 893 - Dr. Michael Shermer joins Vinnie to discuss several interesting topics such as skeptics, religion, psychics, and a shared connection with the Badwater 508. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Green Grocer Thrive Market DR. SHERMER Does a lot of work in the sphere of morality Publisher of Skeptic magazine Has written a number of books, including The Moral Arc While he discusses a lot of morality, religion, and less tangible things, he also believes that science is incredibly important Also very into health and fitness SKEPTICS Lots of cultural elements involved with religious Finding meaning in random things Auditory, visual illusions People can make signs out of nothing The patterns, the illusions, the non-randomness all in our minds Really it is random Veganism - another thing to be skeptical about PETA doesn't care about your health, they only care about animals (and even then that's questionable) The Standard American Diet is another thing to be skeptical about Gary Taubes is a truther Psychic shows are also largely BS They only select out of 12 hours, about 45 minutes that confirms their "psychic prowess" They figure out patterns and generalities Dogs have good intuition, too Usually "spooky" things, or things that seem to good to be true, are just that DIET AND RELIGION Many people treat diet as a religion Just like old time religion, certain food is taboo, etc. People also get this attachment to food similar to some's attachment to food There is a church of food This also can make breaking bad eating habits more difficult

Should I Try Food Hacks? - Episode 892

: Episode 892 - Andy reads a question from listener Sharona (yes, Vinnie plays the song) about food hacks. She wants to know whether she should eat something with high fat after ice cream or avoid fat for the rest of the day... PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club VINNIE'S LOOK Andy doesn't like the glasses, beard, hat look Covering up too much! Hasn't shaved because Serena is not in town His glasses are for glacier climbing - why he is wearing them in his office is a whole other question FOOD HACKS Sharona asked a question about fat after high carb whoopsie She had some ice cream (LIL), should she then follow up with olive oil or some fat or what? The French Paradox! Wine with cheese example Not really a simple answer Ann Childers did a little experiment with this Had some cheerios with non-fat milk, blood sugar shot way up Had some cheerios with heavy cream, not nearly as much of an insulin response Now this won't let you lose weight, but it is an n1 experiment Fat is the most sating thing! At baseball games, have some peanuts, eat a sausage out of the bun Don't think you can mitigate eating crap by eating some olive oil etc. Don't try to "hack" a healthy lifestyle

TSA, Testosterone & Vodka - Episode 889

: Episode 889 - Vinnie and listener Jim talk about their frequent TSA pat-downs, testosterone replacement, distilled spirits and much much more! PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club LISTENER JIM Found Vinnie through the Carolla effect Vinnie doesn't back down when he knows he is right - that's a great way to be! Jim really liked the straight forwardness of Vinnie Used to live in CA, now in Idaho Jim, because of his situation, has had blood pressure troubles He had an artery explode in his head It took the hospital multiple visits before they actual did something about his aneurism Jim could tell he was dying, but the hospital still would not do anything for a good while He finally saw a specialist and found a doctor who would operate within hours of his potential death TSA PAT-DOWNS Vinnie and Jim both have a lot of experience with TSA Pat-downs, whether it be personal or related Vinnie is especially the "sketchy" looking guy who gets searched Largely because of his metal soldier Frustrating especially because they are not the bad guys TESTOSTERONE Because of his 'aneurism', he is concerned about taking testosterone replacement medications Vinnie is not a doctor so could not say whether or not this would really affect his brain However, Vinnie finds that generally, testosterone supplements are BS Vinnie has lower T, but can still do everything a man with "high" T can do because he works at it and eats right VODKA & MORE Distilled alcohols are alright, as long as sugar is not added Stay away from beer - it is liquid pasta Vodka, gin, tequila all alright Mix it with La Croix!

Dr Tim Noakes: Nutrition on Trial - Episode 888

: Episode 888 - Dr Tim Noakes joins Vinnie to talk about his trial, his upcoming book Nutrition on Trial, the truth about the effectiveness of statins, and more. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Green Grocer Thrive Market DR TIM NOAKES Check out his website here! Believes in the good of LCHF South African doctor A writer of some really incredible books Check them out here One of Vinnie's favorite is Waterlogged There is no set amount of water that one person should drink Different for every person You can actually drink too much water! Noakes had to go through a really difficult trial because he advised a low carb high fat diet to a patient He was, of course, found innocent of doing anything wrong His new book is about the trial, called Nutrition on Trial About all of the smear-attempts, and the trial itself Marika helps him out in this Also talks about how low carb is real good for the insulin resistant Hopes it will help young doctors change the 'typical' ways Came across low carb because he changed his lifestyle, began running a lot He felt awful when he ran Saw some evidence on the Atkins diet, changed to a low carb diet Has had no sweets and incredibly limited carbs over the last number of years Now, his health in general is SO much better Has done a lot of good research, as well Prosecutors went against the constitution just to get Dr. Noakes to trial It was such a pointed and nasty prosecution They just didn't want any ideas that contradicted with their own financial gain gaining traction just like Noakes' ideas were The whole trial seemed like a joke because it was so fabricated and ridiculous Sugar kills Frightens Dr. Noakes to see how people are hurting themselves on the inside, even though for about 20% of the population nothing changes on the outside STATINS Does not believe in the hype around statins Cholesterol is not as simple or as bad as the industry tries to make it Statins really are not beneficial The side effects truly make it not worth it Not reported because the industry controls the results

Are Paleo Crackers NSNG? - Episode 887

: Episode 887 - Andy asks Vinnie whether or not the yummy paleo crackers he bought are really low carb and NSNG. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club PALEO CRACKERS This are called "Paleo Thin Crackers" From Julian's Bakery GMO free, Gluten Free, etc. Filtered water, blanched almond flour, cassava flour, sesame seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, sea salt A good paleo snack Pretty crunchy Doesn't seem like there is actually water in there Maybe a lie? Cassava flour is also not the best thing... Even the Livestrong Foundation agrees with this It's a starch Similar to rice If you want something crunchy, make cheese chips! On skillet, in microwave, in oven You can use all types of cheeses! You can make crackers similar to this but without the cassava flour
