the power of accepting the duality of life
"Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty, only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil. Being and nonbeing produce each other. The difficult is born in the easy. Long is defined by short, the high by the low. Before and after go along with each other. So the sage lives openly with apparent duality and paradoxical unity. - 2nd Verse of the Tao Te Ching
In this weeks episode, we have a lot of questions and thoughts hehe.. we discuss the concept of the duality of life and how understanding it and most importantly accepting it.. can change the way we perceive our life!! Some specific topics we question are:
- can two things both be true at the same time ?
- the conflict and struggle of wanting and striving for self improvement and how that contradicts with self acceptance and self love
- how we're allowed to feel all the emotions present in the human experience at the same time
- how duality is present in both the human experience and in nature
- Is it true that you can only fully know one thing by understanding its opposite ? (love + loss, success + failure, dark + light, the good + the bad) ?
song reference: Happy & Sad by Kacey Musgraves
join us for the journalling challenge this week as we keep track of all of the supposedly contradicting moments of extreme emotion that we feel throughout each day!

feeling beautiful, breakups & exploring your sexuality
Stoking the embers
when you’re not around
I don’t want a shadow
I want you
In the light of the flame
I’m remembering
I can be beautiful in private too
- zoe berger
In part 2, Leo & I were joined by the wonderful zoe who is a writer/graphic designer living in nyc to talk about self love, relationships, sexuality, breakups, sex stigmas, attachment styles, and loneliness.
We hope you enjoyed this raw, unfiltered episode as much as we did. Defo check out zoe's iconicccc style here on her ig, or her wonderful writing on her blog!

breaking up with our past selves
being self aware and having a good understanding of yourself (i.e why you think things, why you feel things) has its perks, but is there such thing as being too self aware? are we spending too much time overthinking every emotion we feel? is our focus on self development hindering our ability to live in the moment?
join us in this early morning coffee chat, as we try to figure out how to break the cycle of overthinking and negative self talk….and instead live life in the moment, taking each day as it comes ♥️

how to appreciate the lows in life
"i’ve been seeing my loneliness as an entity i live with, like a roommate. i take my loneliness on dates. we listen to sad music together. we sit together at dinner. i look it in the eyes. we don’t fight." - zoe berger
this truly is a very special conversation and might be one of my favourite guest episodes yet! cara & I were joined by the wonderful zoe who is a writer/graphic designer living in nyc to talk about loneliness, love, mental illness and everything in between. some specific q's we answer are:
how to find the beauty in loneliness and stop feeling ashamed?
how to deal with heartbreak or breakups?
what is it really like to live with BPD and depression?
how to know what medication or treatment is right for your mental illness?
recording this episode was so insightful to us because zoe has the most beautiful way of looking at life and the human emotional spectrum! i took sooo much away from this conversation and i'm sure you will too. <3

clubbing: are we really having fun?
when we sat down to record this episode... I (cara) had no idea what we were going to talk about....Leo had a few things on her mind that she really wanted to unload and so....
join us for a truly authentic chit chatty style episode, where leo shares a recent 'going out' experience. leo discusses how the experience made her feel, and the questions that arose regarding clubbing, going out culture, fomo & the pressure to say yes even when you don't want to! We discuss why we think the enjoyment behind clubbing can change as you get older, how sometimes we only go clubbing because of the fear of missing out on the memorable experiences with friends, how sometimes we may not feel 'extroverted' enough to be comfortable in those situations, and most importantly why saying no to going out can feel so difficult.

lessons we've learnt: pursuing your passion project
pov: you’ve just hosted your first in person event for your passion project.. it was one of the best nights of your life… and you feel this urge to tell everyone that they need to turn whatever idea, concept, or passion that they have into a reality asap because WHY THE HELL NOT!
in this chaotic episode, we do our best to express how grateful we are for everyone that listens to the podcast, that messages us, and especially to those that travelled to come to our event!
we decide that it’s finally time to share some of the lessons we’ve learnt starting our passion project, and some advice for any of you that are interested in doing the same.
we chat about:
the importance of using your network and reaching out for help
measuring growth for your project and how the real ‘growth’ comes from within!
we stress how important it is not to care what others think or let the fear of judgment get in the way of you pursuing whatever it is that you want to do
why surrounding yourself with people that push you and motivate you can help you follow through with the project
and soo much more ( including a mini recap of the event and story time of the very HECTIC start of the evening)
so... please pour yourself a matcha and enjoy listening! 🍵 Follow us on instagram (@the.matcha.diaries) to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes, and share any of your thoughts! Also, if you want to join our book club... you can join us here!.
