The sagas were recorded over a long period in the Middle Ages, primarily in the 12th and 13th centuries. The original authors or recorders are largely unknown, though they were Christian writers documenting stories from the Viking Age that took place in Iceland in the ninth, tenth, and early eleventh centuries.
