In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi steps into the final league of the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA.
We are transported into that period when there is an altercation of sorts between Uthman RA and the rebels and how Uthman ceaselessly reminds them about the various deeds accomplished successfully by him and also how the Prophet ﷺ himself has given him his allegiance.
Attempts were made by Ali Ibn Talib RA, Abdullah Ibn Salam, Abu Hurayra, Ibn Umar, Hassan ibn Ali and Marwan Ibn Al Hakam RA to avert a disaster and in the best interest of the Muslim Ummah. But nothing seemed to work and all attempts at reconciliation reached a dead end.
The final part of the video divulges details on the eventual death of Uthman Ibn Affan RA and numerous facts are elucidated . Some of these that would be beneficial to share are as follows:
The night before his death, Uthman RA saw the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr RA and Umar RA in a dream, where the Prophet ﷺ said "break your fast with us". So Uthman RA fasted that day and told his wife Nailah that today he would meet the Prophet ﷺ.
On Friday 12th of Dhul Hijjah, 35 AH, Uthman RA insisted all the Sahabah to leave the house. He opened up his door and began to recite the Qur’an which led to people barging into his room. They indulged in holding and pulling his beard and eventually striking him with a stick. One among them struck Uthman RA with a sword, which caused his hand to be cut off and blood to spill onto the verse of the Quran “Fasayakfi Kahumullah” (And Allah will take care of them for you).
Uthman RA said to them “Woe to you, that was the first hand that wrote down the Qur’an down”. The rebels continued until Uthman RA was struck on the neck and that blow eventually led to his demise.
Uthman RA was buried in the Baqi’. His death sparked the formation of two separate groups of people - the Khawarij and Shi’a.
