The creature holds on. He escapes. And when Sheriff Liston Truesdale investigates, he doesn't laugh. He believes. The boy passes a polygraph. Soon, more witnesses emerge. Armed parties search the swamp. The media descends. And the Lizard Man becomes legend—with sightings continuing as recently as 2015 .

More sightings follow—always near disaster. Thirteen months later, the Silver Bridge collapses, killing 46 people . Was Mothman a warning? A cause? Or something else entirely?
Cryptozoologist Ken Gerhard suggests some entities like Mothman may not be flesh and blood at all—but "spectral manifestations or other-dimensional" . And recent sightings in Chicago since 2017 suggest the creature never left—it just relocated .
