"Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb." After the golden calf disaster, the Levites stood with Moses against idolatry. Now God sets them apart as His own, a living substitution for the firstborn of every Israelite family. In this chapter, we see the principle of substitution at work: one standing in the place of many. This points forward to Christ, the firstborn from the dead, who gave Himself as a ransom for all. The Rev. John Lukomski, pastor emeritus and co-host of Wrestling with the Basics on KFUO Radio, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Numbers 3.
