Henry Rollins, the lead singer of Black Flag and The Rollins Band, once said that "the definition of definition is re-invention" as far as deciding who you are as a person.

Your job as an individual is to define yourself FOR yourself — not to rely on the ready-made identity your parents wanted for you (though you may certainly find inspiration in that, as I have).
