Elon Musk recently claimed that AI will make programming languages obsolete. That you'll be able to write English and the machine will translate it directly into code. That engineers won't need to understand how anything works anymore.
Mike and I break down why this is wrong. Not because AI isn't powerful. It is. We use it every day. But because the claim fundamentally misunderstands what programming languages are for and why precision matters.
English is imprecise. Programming languages exist to eliminate ambiguity. When you write code, every character means something specific. There's no room for interpretation. AI can help translate intent into code. But someone still has to verify that the intent was captured correctly. That the edge cases are handled. That the logic is sound.
That someone is an engineer. And they're not going anywhere.
AI is transforming how we work. But it's not replacing the need to understand what you're building or why. Engineers who can use AI to move faster while maintaining precision are more valuable than ever. Engineers who think AI makes understanding optional are going to struggle.
This episode is about separating hype from reality and understanding where AI actually fits in the development process.
