At the same time, understanding the difference between legitimate criticism of Israel and hostility toward Jewish people is crucial - a line that is too often blurred in today’s discourse. Political rhetoric from across the spectrum can inflame tensions and accusations of antisemitism are sometimes used to shut down debate rather than engage with it. Conflating Judaism with the actions of the Israeli government does not protect Jewish communities - it risks putting them in greater danger.
