Since 2001, combination therapy with pegylated interferon with ribavirin is considered the standard of care in hepatitis C treatment. In clinical trials, 50 to 60 percent of patients treated with combination therapy achieved a sustained virologic response, or SVR, meaning the virus is undetectable in their blood.
