Ep. 152 - The Cost of Not Trusting Yourself

Ever swallowed a "no" to keep the peace? Stayed when every cell in your body screamed "leave"? Overridden that quiet voice inside because you didn't want to disappoint someone? In this deeply tender episode of The Manifestation Method, I'm sharing a devastating true story about my friend Dawn, 19 years old, stood up by a guy, invited to ride on a motorcycle into New York City, and the moment she ignored her inner knowing that cost her her life.

I'm opening with the truth: self-trust is not a concept, it's a relationship between your mind and heart, your nervous system and intuition, your soul and the voice that's been whispering truth your whole life. Self-trust gets shaped by every moment you were told your feelings were wrong, every time you swallowed a no to keep connection, every time you learned that staying attached to someone else mattered more than staying attached to yourself.

Drawing on Kabbalistic teaching about Emet (truth) and Shalom (peace) that peace can only come from alignment with truth, not avoiding conflict, I'm revealing why lying to yourself, even gently or politely or spiritually, fractures your soul and creates inner war. When you override your body's signals, you create spiritual dissonance, the core of why so many people feel ungrounded.

I'm breaking down the attachment trauma behind why we abandon ourselves: as children, connection becomes conditional. Cry too much, you're dramatic. Say no, you're difficult. Be angry, you're bad. Be sensitive, you're too much. The child learns: my feelings threaten my belonging, my no threatens love, my truth threatens safety.

This episode includes my personal journey learning to honor my no at Shabbat meals, leaving mid-meal when my nervous system was wrung out, discovering that when I honor me, the world honors me.
