Episode 64: Nvidia H200 Is Coming, Will AMD and Intel “Catch Up” In the AI Arms Race?

Nvidia recently announced its newest GPU-powered system for AI training and inference, the H200. This will be the first using HBM3e (an updated version of third-generation high-bandwidth memory) integrated with Nvidia’s Hopper GPU chip architecture to deliver more data for AI training and inference. 

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang is clearly aware of coming competition, as he’s always been in the past, but the stakes have never been higher. AMD and Intel have AI chips of their own. AMD in particular has been investing in accompanying software (the ROCm ecosystem) to “catch up” to Nvidia. But is this even possible? And more importantly, is playing “catch up” even the best way to measure progress for investors in AMD and Intel?
