Usually thunder awakens the residents of Bandra at night, a popular suburb of Bombay. Something louder awoke its residents on the night of 12th October. A roar. A deafening roar, of a lion heaving his last breath. Just a few blocks away from me, the king of bandra’s political scene was being rushed to the Lilavati hospital, a final ditch attempt to save the 66 year old political veteran. Many called him Baba. Thousands gathered outside Lilavati, praying for Baba to make it through. I stood outside the hospital not knowing what was happening, not knowing what Baba meant to these people, not knowing what the eerie tension presaged. This is the story of the Baba of Bandra, this is the story of Bollywood, Bishnoi and Baba Siddique.
