The Bible Project Daily Podcast Bonus Episode (Philosophy). Aristotle - Politics - A Christian Response (Apologetic)
Aristotle – Politics.
What makes a good society? How should it be governed and who should be allowed to live in it? These issues are what the Greek philosopher Aristotle called Politics. His writing now 2 1/2 thousand year old have cast a long shadow in political philosophy.
In this work, Aristotle asked what made a society good using terms like ‘oligarchies’, ‘democracies’ and ‘monarchies’ that we still use today. In this highly influential work, Aristotle tried to establish a way of preserving a society through dangerous times. How should it be governed and who should be allowed to live in it? Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Aquinas, to name but a few, have all asked the same questions over the years since. .Aristotle’s conclusions range across the role of wealth and the law, about how men, women and slaves should be treated as well as discussing education and leisure. They are far reaching, influential and, at times, deeply unpalatable to the Christian Worldview.
These are my notes and thoughts quickly drawn together and offered as a bonus episode to you my Patrons. Thank you, without your support the work of my main Bible Podcast would be impossible.
