Browns trade Za"Darius Smith and release Quinton Jefferson at NFL deadline

The Cleveland Browns only made on trade at the NFL deadline moving veteran pass rusher Za'Darius Smith  to the Detroit Lions.

Smith was having a more productive year in his second season in Cleveland but at 2-7 there was no reason to have him take reps from younger players. The Browns add another draft pick uping their total to 11 in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The team released Quinton Jefferson who had been inactive the last four weeks. Again, it's time to evaluate younger players.
