Catch Ups In My Kitchen E.195 Fish Oils; why you need them and which ones to take with Melanie Lawson Founder of Bare Biology
In my kitchen this week I am joined by Melanie Lawson, founder of Bare Biology, a British supplement brand known for its high-quality omega-3 fish oils and marine-based supplements.
Melanie launched Bare Biology after struggling to find a fish oil she trusted while navigating postnatal depression and OCD. Frustrated by the lack of transparency around sourcing, purity and potency in the supplement industry, she set out to create the kind of product she wished existed, as at that time she was sourcing hers from the states. Melanie wanted one that prioritised sustainably sourced ingredients, high therapeutic levels of omega-3, and rigorous third-party testing. What began as a personal mission has grown into a respected UK wellness brand with a loyal following among nutritional therapists and health practitioners.
In this episode, Melanie shares the story behind creating Bare Biology, we focus in particular on fish oils, why omega-3 fatty acids are so important for overall health, and why the quality, purity and source of the fish used can make such a difference when it comes to choosing a supplement.
Melanie explains what to look for on labels, why potency matters, and how sustainably sourced oils can provide higher levels of beneficial EPA and DHA.
Beyond fish oils, we also discuss the supplements Melanie believes can be most beneficial alongside a healthy diet, including vitamin D and magnesium, and what she considers to be the core foundations when it comes to supporting your body nutritionally.
Finally, Melanie speaks openly about her own health journey, from living with OCD for much of her life to her more recent ADHD diagnosis and how she has built and run a successful business while navigating these challenges.
It’s an honest and inspiring conversation about resilience, entrepreneurship and the importance of supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
