Vacations are a normal part of modern life, yet most of us have never stopped to ask what they’re really for. In this eighth installment of our Not Just Sacred series, we explore the surprising history behind vacations, from biblical festivals and pilgrimages to Roman leisure culture and modern travel.

Along the way we ask whether something important has been lost. If God designed us for rhythms of work, rest, worship, and community, then vacations may be about more than simply getting away. We also discuss a few practical, Christian principles for resting well, traveling well, and finding moments of spiritual renewal (even in the middle of a family trip).
