Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor: ...that we have the power to choose who and how we want to be in every situation

She is a Harvard-trained brain scientist who studied her own stroke, as it happened, back in 1996. She knew what was happening as she watched her brain functions—motion, speech, memory and self-awareness—shut down, one by one.

Dr. Taylor spent eight years recovering her ability to think, walk, and talk. She has become an advocate for stroke recovery and for the possibility of coming back from brain injury stronger than before. She's the author of the best-selling memoir, My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey. And, she's the author of the new book, Whole Brain Living: The Anatomy of Choice and the Four Characters That Drive Our Life.
