If you thought coaching had to be serious to be effective, meet Jill Salzman — who decided to write a coaching book as a graphic novel. A comic-style book about mindset blocks, fears, and what it really means to coach. Her purpose? To show that coaching isn’t just deep thinking — it’s also fun, relatable, and human. She wanted to challenge the idea that we need to be overly serious or “professional” to be credible. So she created five fictional characters — a superhero among them — who embody common excuses clients use: “I don’t have time,” “I’m too inexperienced,” and so on.
Through playful art and storytelling, she makes coaching accessible and engaging for everyone, even kids.What stands out? The notion that coaching doesn’t have to be a heavy, intimidating process. It can be light, joyful, and authentic — because that’s where real connection and transformation happen.Maybe that’s the point. Perhaps we need to remember that human connection — not perfection — is the core of coaching success.
