Black filmmaker Jordan Peele said, “I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie.” Black filmmaker Ava DuVernay responded by tweeting,“to the white men… if you don’t get that job you were up for, kindly remember… bias can go both ways. This is 2020 speaking.” Oprah Winfrey and Lionsgate are partnering with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones to adapt The New York Times’ recent project examining the legacy of slavery for film and television.
