General Number And Singularity
- Some languages use non-plural or a general number as the unmarked form, not singular.
- Languages may also have marked singulars (singularity) or collective bases with singular derived forms.
Where Number Can Appear
- Number marking can appear on entire noun phrases rather than individual words.
- Pronouns most often retain number marking even when nouns do not.
Design Number Early And Place Marking
- Decide number distinctions early when creating a conlang so agreement and marking remain consistent.
- Plan where number marks appear: noun, NP, pronoun, verb, or multiple loci.
