Most FinTechs launch payment cards, tying themselves to the interchange fees and limitations imposed by card schemes. Mode built its own payments solution using open banking, bypassing interchange fees and card schemes entirely. The company came to the London Stock Exchange main market in October 2020 and is one of the only FCA-registered and LSE-listed crypto firms in the UK. It operates open banking and QR code payment services via an app that offers Bitcoin rewards to consumers and provides business with an alternative to card payments.
