Photographers frequently hire other photographers to work with them, more often as second shooters or assistant photographers but also as 'associate photographers' who represent the main studio as the primary photographer on a gig.
In this episode, I talk with my friend, Leighton DaCosta, about why it is important to have a 'master service agreement' that specifically spells out the business relationship you have with your second/associate photographers, delineating everything from payments dependent on the type of work that is going to be done to the code of conduct expected from the subcontracted photographers.

Leighton DaCosta, or "LD" as many know him by, is a Wedding and Fine Art Portrait Photographer based in Charleston, South Carolina. He started his photography business 15 years ago while serving in the Navy. Due to the military requirements, he learned to make his studio "interstate mobile" as he has operated for extended periods in Virginia, Florida, Utah, Georgia, and now, South Carolina. He's conducted photo assignments in exotic and remote places such as Dubai, Jamaica, and Aruba; as well as several years flying over Afghanistan.
