INSIGHT

Cold Raises Cardiovascular Risk

  • Cold can raise blood pressure and increase stroke and heart attack risk, so warmth directly affects cardiovascular safety.
  • Staying warm is therefore both comfort and critical preventive health action for vulnerable people.
ADVICE

Book The RSV Vaccine If In Eligible Groups

  • People aged 75–79 and those turning 80 after 1 Sept 2024 should contact their GP to book the RSV vaccine; pregnant women are offered it from 28 weeks.
  • The RSV vaccine is given separately from the flu vaccine and may be available at some pharmacies.
ADVICE

Ask About Pneumonia And Shingles Vaccines

  • If you're 65+ or have certain conditions ask about the pneumococcal vaccine to reduce pneumonia risk and the shingles vaccine if eligible.
  • Contact your GP practice to arrange these vaccines and for more information on vaccination options.
