He insists that only a sitting U.S. president can make it official by publicly acknowledging the truth.
Donald Trump’s recent statement pledging to “ask all appropriate entities to release the UFO files” marks a turning point, Bassett says, because it represents a direct presidential promise to act rather than merely endorse congressional efforts. In his view, the ultimate goal isn’t just to open the files but to have the president “end the lie” once and for all.
