1. Speak Honestly Without Blame

Instead of "You never listen to me," try "I feel unheard and lonely when I don't get to share what's bothering me." This shifts the focus from attack to experience, inviting your partner to listen, not defend.
Raw honesty invites real understanding—because it shows vulnerability, not aggression. When you own your feelings without blame, your spouse can meet you halfway rather than shutting down.
2. Create a Safe Space for Sharing
If you want pain to come into the open, you must nurture a safe environment for it. That means intentionally choosing moments when you both can be present and calm. Phones off, distractions down, eyes and ears open.
