Bryn Pottie joins the podcast to talk about his first novel and the surprising inspiration behind it.
Set in 1922 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the story follows two teenage friends determined to break the mould of Maritime music. Instead, they find themselves caught up in one of the most outrageous capers in Nova Scotian history, stealing the legendary Bluenose. The result is a rollicking farce packed with wild adventures, classic East Coast sarcasm, and plenty of winking nods to modern-day events.
Not everyone is thrilled with the story, though—some people in the neighbouring town aren’t too happy about how they’re portrayed.
Bryn describes the book as a pick-up-and-put-down” kind of read, perfect for people who don’t usually consider themselves big readers but still want a fun, entertaining story.
