As we continue are historical journey into the period leading up to the First Continental Congress, one important part of this period is the Hudson Bay Company. The Hudson Bay Company was part of the mercantile system of Royal approved monopolies that was given a charter that included waging war. There primary export was furs, with this role expanding significantly after the British defeated the French in the French and Indian War. Two other Royal chartered companies also played an important part during this time: The Pacific Northwest Company and the East Indian Company. All of these were monopolies that added to the increasing sentiment from the colonies to seek independence from England.
