Or is it?
Take for example the dishes. There are probably twenty different ways to load the dishwasher. You can put bowls facing one direction in the upper rack, or you can move them facing another direction.
Just because they are placed toward the back instead of the front doesn't mean that one way is right and the other way is wrong.
Different is not wrong.
However, when it comes to marriage, we throw that concept out the window. "I want you to do it my way."
Here's another example: Take for instance getting ready for bed. My husband has a certain routine. And one night he says, "You used to get ready for bed, and now you don't."
I was a little surprised by that comment. So immediately I replay as many nights in my head that I could. What did he mean?
You see, he gets ready specifically one way ever night. It doesn't matter how tired he is. Getting ready for bed is the same routine.
Now routine is great. But if I'm tired, I may opt to hop into bed without washing my face. Yet if I took a shower just 3 hours ago, do I really need to wash my face?
Some of you would say yes, and others would say no!
Different is not wrong.
What is wrong is how it can become a wedge in your marriage.
Don't stand for the wedge, compromise comes under the covers.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Compromise comes under the covers!Now, you are already listening up. Because you are thinking that I'm going to lead you to sexual intimacy.
Not today. I will say that differences can affect sexual intimacy. But that's not where you'll find the answers.
What really needs to be looked at is why the way you're doing is wrong per your spouse, or vice versa.
The compromise comes under the covers. There's more to the story than just "different is wrong".
- Understand why your spouse wants it done a certain way. (Expectations)
- Agree to a resolution. If it is life or death to your spouse, know the conditions.
- Practice is progress. You must practice this agreement so you and your spouse are on the same page.
In any relationship, it's essential not to make assumptions. This comes with anything in marriage. Don't assume. Always ask, clarify, and practice the compromise, because you don't want to mess up what's under the covers.
