The Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated in Iran, the Palestinian militant group says, drawing fears of wider escalation in the region. That followed Israel’s claim it had killed Lebanon's Hezbollah senior commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Japan has raised interest rates as the Federal Reserve meets to discuss future cuts in US rates. Vice President Kamala Harris is to hold her first rally with her new vice presidential nominee on Tuesday, her campaign has confirmed. That's as some Republican donors raise concerns over Donald Trump's choice of JD Vance. And the UK in shock after mass stabbing.
