Ep. 445: How to Tell Your Parents About Your Sexual Preferences feat. Yoshita Dave

On this episode, Ashdin is joined by the amazing Yoshita Dave, sex educator, intimacy coach, counseling psychologist, life coach, sexual wellness expert and mental health first aider. A question that Ashdin gets asked a lot is, 'how do I tell my parents about my sexual preferences?' This is a burning and important topic. How should you go about it? How should parents react when told something they were not expecting in this regard?

Ashdin talks to Yoshita Dave to get her expertise on this topic. Yoshita gives some amazing examples of cases that have come to her - she talks about her cousin from the US who is homosexual and totally cool and open about it. Yoshita mentions the troubles her cousin had when he was first coming out to his parents. Ashdin and Yoshita also talk about why it's important to normalise all kinds of relationships, be they heterosexual or homosexual relationships, and the importance of being comfortable with who you are and what you've found out about yourself. Yoshita also talks about how it can be helpful to confide in a friend or a relative first before opening up to your parents about this, the advantages of seeking out professional help, the importance of being non-judgemental, and lots more.
