Hollywood's horror themed documentary mentality can make it easy to dismiss the existence of demons entirely. In their efforts to distinguish themselves from the mainstream, most serious investigators report experiencing demonic activity as extremely rare. However, these experiences may manifest differently than what popular culture leads us to believe.

In recent years, there has been a growing focus in the paranormal field on demonic lore. More paranormal investigators are pursuing demonology, and many recent TV shows and movies feature demonic hauntings, often prioritizing shock value over providing an engaging narrative. In these shock-driven films, demons are portrayed through children cursing, young girls levitating off the bed, coughing up nails, and speaking in unknown tongues, with a hapless priest trying Latin verses and commands to no avail.
