The day before yesterday, we traveled to North Carolina to honor my husband's grandfather. Grandpa passed away at the age of 95 years old.
So yesterday (Thursday) was the funeral service. All the family gathered, some of whom I had never met.
As I sat around listening to all the stories about Grandpa, there was a theme in his storyline. He treated people with respect and made each of them feel important, that they mattered.
My father-in-law shared a story of one of his good friends that responded to Dad's text shortly after Grandpa passed away. He reminded Dad how impactful his dad was for him. And how Grandpa groomed them at such a young age.
Now understand, this was over fifty years ago. And to this date, Dad's good friend saw Grandpa as an influencer in his life.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Are you doing what really matters?I think about how much of our time is truly wasted on stuff that doesn't matter. Oh how this world could be a different place if we looked at our lives and our actions as gifts to those around us. Those whose paths we cross.
Grandpa and Grandma have been married over 71 years. You could just see how they worked together as a team to impact their entire family, their friends, their community, their country.
Everything that they did had a ripple effect. Grandpa truly lived the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Unfortunately, material things, selfish endeavors, and modern technology has distracted us from the very foundation of our existence.

Are you doing what really matters?
I don't want to get all morbid and say you have to think about what people will say at your funeral service, but what would it be here and now?
Would there be a theme in your storyline? Or would it show more about being caught up in the petty and pity stuff of life?
Don't minimize the impact and influence you have. One day, people you now call family and friends, will gather together and share stories about you.
What stories will they tell? What impact will you leave?

Grandpa lived a beautiful life filled with people who called him friend, brother, uncle, father, and grandpa. This farmer at heart loved the dirt, animals, plants, and flowers, and loved God too.
He lived one BIG message in life.
