So let's be real. You've heard the infamous question, "Who is your favorite?"

And the best parents quickly respond without a breath, "I have no favorites."
I must say that as hard as we try, we do compare. That makes it all the more reason to be aware so you don't fall into the trap of comparison with your children.
And for those thinking you have only one child. The comparison still exists. It's just done with a good friend instead.
How do you protect yourself and your heart from comparison?
The K.I.S.S. ~ See the child for who he/she is!Nothing builds your child's confidence than you loving him/her for who he/she is. That comes with patience and presence.
- Watch your language. Your words have power! Things like "Your brother or sister would do this," are best to avoid.
- Encourage independence. Allow your child to explore his/her interests and inspire him/her to pursue them.
- Listen more intently. You want to hear what your child is saying, not what you are assuming your child is expressing to you. Don't finish his/her sentences.
As you focus on your child as an individual, you will stop trying to make him/her someone he/she is not.
Love unconditionally especially when your kids don't live up to what you want. Remember, it's your child's life to live. Be the shepherd and the guide, and let comparison fall away.
