This week on Black on Black Cinema, the crew returns to announce the next film, "Candyman." This is the 2021 spiritual successor of the original 1992 film starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Teyonah Parris. The film tells the story of the housing projects of Chicago's Cabrini-Green that are terrorized by a ghost story about a supernatural, hook-handed killer for decades. In the present day, an artist begins to explore the macabre history of Candyman, not knowing it would unravel his sanity and unleash a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny. The random topic this week is all about the tragic death of Gabby Petito and the hard but much-needed conversation about why there is an outsized difference in the coverage of tragedies like Gabby's vs people of color under the same circumstances.
