The Challenges and Opportunities of Health System Pharmacists When the general public thinks of a pharmacist, they may think of the pharmacist behind a counter at a community pharmacy. But as we know, pharmacists work in all kinds of practice settings–and that includes thousands of pharmacists in hospitals and other health-system environments. Their challenges are both similar to and different from community pharmacists. Last year, APhA created a special council to discuss health-system pharmacy issues, and to advise the association on how to serve pharmacists in those settings.
