August 2, 2026 is when the EU AI Act transparency obligations kick in. The C2PA standard is spreading fast across camera bodies and some software. This week sees the launch of two major product upgrades for photographers: Adobe Firefly AI Assistant and Nik Collection 9. One of these ships with the ability to sign exports, the other does not.
So we have new types and increasing numbers of assistants in our workflows and new attempts to help us authenticate our work. How will it all work? Will it work at all? What difference does it make anyway?
