The values discovery exercise — step by step
- Grab a blank sheet of paper and write down everything you value in life. Fill the whole page. Don't edit yourself.
- Ask yourself: When did I feel really, really good about myself? Why? Who was I being? What was I honouring?
- Ask yourself: When did I feel really hurt or sad? What values were stepped on?
- Start grouping your words — find the one word that holds all the others for you.
- Make your list memorable. Alliteration, acronyms, whatever helps you know them off the top of your head.
Living the practice Over the next week, witness yourself. When you feel good, which values are you honouring? When you feel off, which ones have been stepped on? This is a practice, not a one-time exercise. Keep coming back to it.
