The Connection Between Montobor and the Osage Nation

In the early 19th century, a group of Native Americans from the Osage nation were lured to France with the promise of wealth and fame. Abandoned by their sponsor and left destitute, they eventually found their way to Montobor where they were given sanctuary. Chris Bockman has been tracing their story. A later discovered Montobor is twinned with the town of Palhusca in Osage County in Oklahoma. In fact over the years more than 550 Osages have visited this region of France. Because of a tradition from the colonial era where French fur traders married the third daughters of Osage families.
