Struggle and Resilience in Iceland

This chapter explores the fraught relationship between Iceland and the Norwegian government, marked by oppression and the imposition of foreign rule during a time of calamity. It examines the decline in trade, social conditions, and educational pursuits, as well as the Icelanders' ongoing resistance against their rulers amidst natural disasters and the impacts of the Black Death. Despite these challenges, the chapter highlights Iceland's enduring intellectual life and the transformational journey of its literature during this turbulent period.
