The Kingdom of Huichia

The origins of the term itself are a bit vexed. Whether it comes from Welsh or whether it comes from Old English, there's not really any consensus around that. The Witchwood Forest takes its name from the kingdom Huichia which is just off to the east on the edge of Oxford shire. It was one of the most prosperous and developed parts of Roman Britain. So how we go from that picture to what we find later on, which is an apparently Anglo-Saxon in inverted commas, kingdom very much under mercy and overlordship, is difficult, but quite compelling, a bit of detective work.
