What Beats Rock?

I've been playing rock, paper scissors and really don't understand how paper beats rock patally covers it. I know, but that doesn't make any sense. Other things like scissors can actually, bekno, cut through the paper. The rock can grind into the paper and read it. So i just don't agree with paper covering rock makes it win. But you agree that in order for the game to work, something has to beat rock? No, but it just doesn't.
