There used to be a lot of agriculture in Hawaii. Now something like 25% of the Hawaiian Islands are basically invasive species. Adding insult to injury, those grasses are fire adapted. And then what comes back the fastest from a really destructive fire will be those same grasses so they out-compete the native vegetation. So you end up with this kind of vicious cycle that just sort of gets worse compounded by climate change and drought.
