How the Village of Fovent Changed in the First World War

Farm laborers no longer had a job because farm land was taken to be used for camps. A lot of the houses in the high street, their front rooms were opened as little shops which would have sold cigarettes and tobacco and sweets. The village post office itself was closed because each of the camps had their own post office with their own stamp. We have several photographs of postcards with fovent an mandival and herdcott post office stamps on them.
