David Wheeler: What is there in the history of humans on Earth that would give us any confidence that we're going to do this? This seems like this sort of paradigmatic thing that humanity does is to stomp into these unexplored territories, which turn out to be inhabited by all sorts of things. So how confident are you that this will be different? I can't say I'm super confident. Like you said, we don't have a good track record on this stuff. We'll see what the ISA can come up with. All our hopes turn to the UN. That's daunting.
