I was skeptical of the very utopian, optimistic fantasies coming out of Washington. But I had seen in Afghanistan what seemed to be a relatively positive story. So I was then put in charge of an Iraqi province at the age of 30. The Coalition Provisional Authority or CPA ordered the debathification of Iraq and disbanded the Iraqi army. For Bremer to have signed the orders effectively dismantling the state of Iraq before even touching down in Baghdad, was not a considered sound judgment. It was an ideologically driven belief. He has justified that view on a theory. If he didn't do that, there would be a civil war. We were so terrified because many militias and gangs have guns into Iraq
